The MMIF Presents: Adrian Brown, Director of Fire Performance, Principal Forensic Investigator at Sedgwick on Fires at Sea, Vehicles, Batteries and New Fuel Hazards
Adrian is currently the Director of Fire Performance and principal forensic investigator at Sedgwick, Global Specialty, Marine Technical Services. He is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and instructor with the National Association of Fire Investigators, and holds memberships in several professional bodies including the International Association of Arson Investigators, the Energy Institute, and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Adrian has extensive experience advising Dubai Civil Defence on fire service operations, forensic fire investigation, and fire engineering for ultra-high-rise buildings, as well as developing multi-agency arson prevention protocols and training.
With a background as a professional firefighter and fire investigator, Adrian has become a leading expert in the Middle East and Southeast Asia on fire performance and investigation of façade and cladding systems. He has led fire investigation initiatives for the UAE Ministry of Interior, served as an expert witness for Dubai Police and UAE Civil Defence, and established formal training and academic recognition for police and forensic CSI personnel. His expertise extends to marine and shipping incidents, commercial port risk management, and marina design, drawing on his experience as a fire officer and port liaison in Newcastle.
Adrian spent 38 years with the UK Fire and Rescue Service, including four years as Director of Fire Engineering and Building Design, and has worked for both UK and global fire engineering consultancies. He played a key role in establishing fire engineering consultancies in Oman and was responsible for operational safety and development at the Port of Duqm. Adrian’s formative training included secondments with Massachusetts State Police, Ontario Fire Marshals, ATF, and FBI, leading to national certification as a fire investigator and police crime scene investigator.
He sits on the editorial board of the British Standards Institute committee for fire-related standards and has contributed to the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code. Adrian’s forensic and engineering expertise supports not only the maritime sector but also complex built environments, including data centres and aviation. He is a passionate public speaker and has delivered expert testimony to international courts and government departments across the UK, USA, Middle East, and Asia.
