In conflict‑related marine claims, proximate cause determines whether conflict merely shaped the conditions of loss or actually caused it — and that distinction decides coverage. We will explore this topic with some case studies.
Capt. Harsh has 46 years of experience in the maritime industry and began his career as a deck cadet, serving onboard merchant vessels in various ascending capacities, obtaining his command in 1997. He spent 28 years at sea, 11 of them as a Master on bulk carriers with major global shipping lines.
He hung up his sailing boots and moved to Australia in 2008, worked as a Marine Surveyor and is currently the Director of Charles Taylor Marine Technical Services. He has been involved in conducting numerous types of surveys, including damage surveys, risk assessments, Marine Warranty Surveys, and investigations and handling of major hull and cargo losses for P&I Clubs and H & M Insurers. He has qualified as a Master Mariner, holds a diploma in Loss Adjusting and is also an Associate Member of the Association of Average Adjusters.
In 1984, during the first Gulf War, his vessel was attacked and set on fire in the Persian Gulf, an event that motivated him to talk about the relevant topic for this session.
You are invited to stay for networking drinks after the session.
