Duane's presentation will broadly cover the following topics of interest:
1. Typical waste streams generated.
2. Operational waste management of marine claims (Including case studies).
3. Waste management and alternative solution technologies.
4. Challenges dealing with marine waste.
Duane started his career in the emergency service and specialised in Hazardous materials management, Fire and Rescue. He furthered his studies in Environmental management and oil spill response for large marine incidents. He also obtained his Diploma in strategic business management, at Rhodes University (RSA).
Duane has 23 years’ experience in emergency environmental pollution management, environmental remediation, rehabilitation and waste management industry, and is currently Sedgwick Australia’s Environmental manager. He has 12 years of environmental specific claims management experience, and has acquired experience in large and complex environmental losses, marine, industrial incidents, commercial fire losses and environmental remediation projects.
Part of the 12 years, he owned his own consultancy firm, which was subsequently acquisitioned in 2020 by Sedgwick South Africa, where he held the role as Lead Environmental Specialists for EFI Global (a Division of Sedgwick SA). Duane advises on alternative waste solutions, resource recovery, environmental assessments and project management of large complex environmental losses, which demands technical experience and legal compliance.
Duane is currently in the Sedgwick Repair Solutions division and based in Brisbane office. Since his arrival in Australia, he onboarded 8 x National waste and spill management service providers and 4 x National Environmental consultants to support his service offering, to the insurance industry.
