The MMIF is proud and excited to have Dr Patrick Cook as our first presenter for 2021!
Title: Incident Loss Mitigation
Description: A hypothetical incident involving a bulk cargo vessel at sea is occurring 'live'. There is no immediate external physical assistance available to the vessel. The crew need to manage the situation with their training and with the equipment and technology on-board. In this instance, an expert is available remotely (by satellite phone) to provide technical advice on how to control and manage the 'adventure' and minimise the risk. This presentation will illustrate some of the complex issues that can arise and the feedback effects that some actions have on an evolving incident. In short, imagine being handed a snake, you now have it in your hands, what actions do you take?
Presenter: Dr Patrick Cook is a Consultant Forensic Scientist and Engineer at Minton Treharne & Davies Australia. He has academic qualifications, professional accreditations, years of experience, and apparently has an interesting outlook and abundant enthusiasm. It has even been heard that it is a pleasure to work with him. He feels honoured to be invited to again present to the Melbourne Marine Insurance Forum, of which he is a proud member.
